BOTOX, or botulinum toxin, was originally developed and used to treat muscle spasms. However, over time, researchers realized that it could also be used for cosmetic purposes. In 2002, BOTOX was approved for cosmetic use by the FDA. Since then, BOTOX has increased in popularity and has become the number one facial aesthetic procedure in the United States, as reported by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Hoefflin primarily performs BOTOX treatments to reduce the lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the eyes, around the lips, and on the chin. BOTOX treatments work by blocking signals from nerves to muscles so that the muscles are not able to contract. Thus, when injected around the forehead, eyebrows or other areas of the face, it causes wrinkles to relax and diminish. The results are dramatic. Patients look younger, less tired, and more refreshed. Results are visible a few days after treatment.
All patients receive complimentary anesthetic numbing cream and post-injection ice compresses. BOTOX injections typically take about 15 minutes. There is no downtime or recovery associated with BOTOX, and patients are immediately able to return to their regular routine.
Occasionally BOTOX patients experience mild redness or swelling. These side effects usually subside within a few hours. Sun exposure should be avoided until any redness or swelling has subsided.
Our professional offices charge $14per unit. Each of the following are considered one area: forehead, glabella (area between the eyebrows), crow’s feet (area around the eyes). Dr. Hoefflin also uses BOTOX as a treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). When treating areas (underarms, palms), the BOTOX unit price applies. However, insurance coverage is often available to those with a history of excessive sweating. Talk with your insurance company to see if this procedure is something they cover, and ask for information on obtaining pre-authorization.

“I’m a 42-year-old mother who has been receiving BOTOX treatments for several years. I selected Dr. Hoefflin as my plastic surgeon because of his reputation for attention to detail. I have a very expressive face but wanted to avoid the frozen or “surprised” look. My goal was to obtain a completely natural, but youthful result. Not only did my wrinkles fade, but Dr. Hoefflin was able to subtly elevate the corners of my eyebrows, making appear even years younger. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the results of my BOTOX.”

BOTOX® is one of the most safe and researched medications used worldwide. To date, BOTOX has been used for over two decades, on millions on patients, and in over 70 countries.
BOTOX Cosmetic® is only made by one manufacturer, Allergan Corporation, headquartered right here in Irvine, California. We only use the authentic product, which is precisely produced in the laboratory.
BOTOX Cosmetic®, or Botulinum exotoxin type A, is a highly purified protein from a family of naturally occurring muscle-relaxing compounds. BOTOX causes facial muscle relaxation and decreased hyperactivity by directly inhibiting nerve signals that are sent to muscles. It is the repetitive facial expressions that is responsible for causing crow’s feet, frown lines or forehead lines. This in turn reduces the wrinkles and lines on the skin surface. In addition, while BOTOX inhibits negative facial expressions, it also enhances the positive expressions of our face. The overall result is a less tired appearance, and a more rejuvenated youthful look. Short of surgery, BOTOX is the only way to slow down the formation of wrinkles caused by the muscle movements of facial expression.
BOTOX is principally used to minimize or diminish the deep lines and wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and “crow’s feet” (lines around the eyes). As a highly skilled BOTOX specialist, Dr. Hoefflin uses BOTOX to reshape the eyebrows into a more beautiful and elegant form. In addition, BOTOX can be used to subtly change the musculature of the mouth and lips to produce a more aesthetically pleasing and attractive mouth contours.
Results are typically seen as early as 48 hours after treatment. While most results occur within seven days, maximal results may take up to two weeks.
Yes. BOTOX is frequently used for treatment in a number of varying pre-existing medical conditions, such as:
Typical injections are performed every 3 to 6 months. The duration of BOTOX’s effects depend upon an individual’s metabolism, the quantity injected, and the areas injected.
As a highly skilled BOTOX specialist, Dr. Hoefflin consistently provides natural and rejuvenated results, avoiding the “frozen” or unnatural look. The goal of treatment is to diminish or reduce facial lines and wrinkles from hyperactive muscles, but not to freeze your expression.
Dr. Hoefflin performs all office injections himself, and does not rely upon Physician Assistants or Registered Nurses to inject patients in his office. When administered by a properly qualified physician, BOTOX is an extremely safe treatment with very few side effects. There are no permanent side effects with properly used BOTOX. The most common side effects, which are temporary and mild, are bruising and eyelid drooping in 1% of patients. Less frequently occurring adverse reactions are pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site. In very rare cases, some experience temporary and mild flu-like symptoms or mild headaches that resolve by themselves.
Patients with active infections at the proposed injection site(s), or patients with known hyper-sensitivity to any ingredient in the BOTOX formulation should not receive treatment. In addition, patients with known neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Myasthenia Gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
Allergan, is a medical and pharmaceutical company, and the only producer of BOTOX Cosmetic®. The authenticity of BOTOX can be confirmed by reviewing the distinct Allergan hologram on each BOTOX vial. During each injection consultation, Dr. Hoefflin is happy to demonstrate the vial and its accompanying hologram. That way, you can be rest assured you are receiving real BOTOX.
Your first consultation will involve evaluating your facial skin and type, discuss with you the areas you want to improve, and gives you the opportunity to get your questions answered. It is important that you know what to expect in the results of BOTOX injections, and whether this product or a combination of BOTOX, fillers, or other treatments or procedures will produce better results.
In injecting BOTOX, it is critical that the person administering the treatment has a thorough knowledge of facial muscular structure. As certain muscles (those that are causing the wrinkles, creases, and lines) will be impacted, over-injections or wrong-site injections could result in problems, including a “frozen” look, or other issues. Dr. Hoefflin is a highly-skilled, board-certified plastic surgeon who takes his responsibility to his patients very seriously. He carefully injects BOTOX so that the results appear natural, and your face appears smoother and younger.
Various financing options are available at our offices. If you are seeking BOTOX treatments and need assistance in paying for the procedure, we can help you get financing arranged. Speak to our friendly administrative staff for more information about an application for credit for your procedures.
