The Mid-facelift or cheek Lift is a minimally invasive procedure the restores the natural convexity to the eyelid-cheek region, and reduces excessive wrinkling or sagging skin by using one’s own tissues. The goal is to reposition the descended skin and fat of the cheek with no visible scars. In addition, the cheek life procedure can soften the nasolabial fold the tissues between the nostril and the cheek. The result is a more natural, youthful, and rejuvenated facial appearance.During the aging process, a person’s skin loses elasticity and tone, causing the lower eyelids and cheeks to descend in the midface, creating a tired or drawn out appearance. A deficient or less prominent cheek structure can make one’s face appear tired, worn, or gaunt. Traditional facelifts usually have little effect on the midface region, including the prominent nasolabial fold.
Cheek lift or mid-facelift procedures may be performed either alone or in combination with other complimentary cosmetic surgery procedures, such as eyelid surgery, browlift, necklift, or laser skin resurfacing to improve your overall aesthetic result.
During your consultation, Dr. Hoefflin will determine if you are in fact a good candidate for the cheek lift or mid-facelift procedure. Customized literature that discusses the procedure, along with pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided. Before and after photographs of similar midface lift patients will be reviewed.
Dr. Hoefflin performs mid-facelift or cheek lifts as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with deep sedation, administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The procedure takes about 2 hours. All operations are performed within fully credentialed and state-of-the-art surgical facilities.
Dr. Hoefflin performs the advanced endoscopic (camera-assisted) technique by placing small inconspicuous incisions within the scalp, lower eyelid, and intraoral regions all of which are nearly inconspicuous when completely healed. The entire midface and cheek region is elevated off the bone and repositioned into a higher and more aesthetic pleasing vector or direction. Thicker cheek tissues are repositioned directly over the cheekbone, resulting in a more prominent and enhancement mid-facial region. If necessary, excess eyelid skin is trimmed and fat bags beneath the eyes are removed.
Patients are discharged home with light facial dressings. Head elevation is encouraged for the first few days after surgery to minimize any bruising or swelling. A slight to moderate amount of bruising around the cheek and eyelid regions is common, and usually resolved in 5-7 days.
Our patients are surprisingly free of discomfort due to the long-acting local anesthetic injections and nerve blocks. Small and meticulously placed sutures are removed within 5 to 7 days. Most patients tell us they feel better than expected following their surgery and are able to return to work and social activities within seven days. Light exercise can be resumed at two weeks.
When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, the risk of serious problems after a cheek lift are rare. Most complications are minor, temporary, and can be easily resolved with conservative treatment and time. Specific risks and the suitability of the cheeklift procedure for a given individual can be determined at the time of consultation. You can reduce your risk of complications by closely following your surgeon’s instructions both before and after surgery.
